Commack South Reunions

Commack South 1970 & 1971

Destination Reunion 2024

Our reunion took place in October 15 -17th in Deerfield Beach Florida after two years of planning and searching for classmates that were at an age that provided challenges to locate.  We had retired, relocated, married or divorced, changed names once or more and never got on Facebook! We opened up Commack South with the class of 1970 splitting off from Commack High School (which was later called Commack North) after 10th grade and entered the newly built high school as Sophomores.  The class of 1971 came directly from Junior High into the new school as Juniors.  Together our classes completed the tasks of choosing a school mascot, designing the school ring and the yearbook Vindauga and formed a close bond that continues to this day.

Commack North & Commack South Reunion 2022
April 30, 2022

Two years prior to our 50th reunion, Commack North Alumni started to plan a 50th reunion for both high schools of the Class of 1970 to take place on Long Island.  It would be the first time our classes would be together since 1968.  At first they were using a reunion company.  When that proved a waste of time, they started to work on it themselves.  Covid 19 shut down all social interactions and after a huge effort, they cancelled the reunion plans. One year later, two of the committee members living in Florida realized that there were many alumni living in Florida and Florida was reopening post-Covid faster than New York.  They hatched a plan for a gathering in Delray Beach Florida and reached out to as many relocated Commackians as they could find to attend "Sands of Time" held at Ellie's 50's Diner Flamingo Ballroom.

 Combined 30th Reunion with 1970 & 1971

Two committees representing both classes arranged this memorable reunion that took place on Long Island at the Colonie Hill in Hauppauge on June 29, 2001.  Our cocktail hour was attended by some of our teachers, Seb DiRubba (Languages and Coach), Joe Redmond, (Coach) Joan Roehrig (Social Studies) and Joe Margolin (Social Studies).   The next day, arrangements were made for a picnic and to visit our old school which had, by then, been converted to a Middle School.  It would be our last reunion until 2022.
